Obama City sends shoutout to Barack Obama

According to yesterday’s Asahi Shinbun, locals of Obama City (小浜市 in Japanese, roughly translated as “Small Beach”) rejoiced when they learned that the new American president shares the name of their city. Apparently, a group of Japanese women even danced the hula to celebrate Obama’s victory. Now isn’t that a sweet thing to do.

On another note, TechCrunch Japan introduces us to AirBed & Breakfast’s ObamaO’s cereal: hope in every bowl! They also wrote a 31-second theme song for these things - which, in my humble opinion, would sound a lot better if children sang it. Hearing a grown man with a faint redneck-ish accent singing “Mommy, can I have some please?” is just… wrong.

Finally,  I’m really glad that Obama won. Hopefully, this time we’ll see some true changes happen. And while we’re on that topic, senator McCain’s sudden change of attitude made me quirk an eyebrow. It’s amazing how quickly he distanced himself from all the smears that he and his campaign had been purporting. Then again, he’s already lost the election. Acting as a sore loser would only dent his image more.

* I realize the ‘net is already packed with people blogging about McCain, Obama etc. This is probably my last post about politics in general and Obama in particular. Promise.
